I participated in yet another installation of the "Contrast" art show. Below are some pics.

I have been working on a new painting, this one a little more subdued in tone. The woman will still have vibrant colors, but the background and its elements are grey and have more of that raw graphite look. 

Here is a close-up:

I made a trip to Socrates Sculpture Park where every few months, there is a rotation of outdoor sculptures. Here is one I find intriguing for all the little, and not so little pieces of ceramics used. (The whole thing is sort of in the shape of a simplified cactus.)

I have a few ideas that I want to put onto canvas ( in my case, wood). Some ideas have been cooking in my mind for a while, and others seem to float up to the surface spontaneously.

I am working in the studio today, taking a break to eat and to blog, and it never fails to amaze me how dirty art can be.

a touch of gold

Here is something new I am working on. I'm using gold paint for the gold necklace. Metallics can be tricky because of the way they reflect light.


I took the pics from different angles (therefore different light casts) and with some help from Instagram. :)

Here you can see the paint is still wet in the face and hair, but the necklace stands out.

I think this is the deepest & purest blue I have used so far in any of my paintings.

In Poland there was a children's cartoon about a little bee named Maya. That's partially the inspiration for this piece, and the fact that I love honey. I use it a lot in cooking along with cayenne pepper. Sweet and spicy!

I hope you all had a joyously delicious holiday season. I know I definitely stuffed my face. So now it's 'back to work' time. I am currently working on three paintings, and I can't wait to show them to you.

last day

It's the last day of 2011 and I am feeling pretty content with my accomplishments this year, both personal and professional. I had a chance to see my family here and oversees more than ever which is what I really needed. I exhibited my art a lot this year and was more proactive about promoting it. I made some good sales and completed fun commissions. On top of that my summer was delicious!

For 2012, I plan to do it all over again and twice as much. As my fortune cookie (above) says "Planning is the prelude to successful action."

Jarritos Art Contest: 2nd place winner

Remember how a few months ago one of my paintings won 2nd place in the Jarritos Flavor City design contest? (if not, here is the blog post to refresh your memory)

Well the prize came! Consisting of 192 bottle of Jarritos! In theory it is a half a year supply of the liquid deliciousness, but in reality, I honestly don't think it will last that long. Party anyone? 

The soda goes great with tequila. :D

"Against all odds"

Here is a commission I am working on, that will be showing on January 21st in Soho, NY (I will keep you updated as we get closer to the date). 

The concept is "against all odds" all the visual elements were under the direction of the client. The theme in this piece is different than my regular work, and I am enjoying working on it. (I used a color filter on the photo, in reality the painting has warm brown tones.)

art basel miami: multiversal 2011

I'm so excited!! 

I will be exhibiting at this year's Multiversal: Art Basel Miami! (December 1st-4th)

It's going to be an amazing show featuring the art of established and emerging artists.

I love people's interpretations of my work. When I create, I have my own vision and meaning behind each piece, but it's always great to hear what others get from it. Feel free to add your own on my Facebook wall! :)

 

 

Here are some of the interpretations of "rabbit stew".

"Strength: if bunnies can swim in water and potatoes can float in the air... I, woman... can get through anything." 

"The Star: The 17th Tarot Card representing a person that likes to nurture the lowly and rain on the negligent who reject the needy."

"Cute things on Earth. Potatoes kind of add the electricity to the piece."

"All fertility. Potato fallopian tubes. Water and rabbits, both symbols of fertility."

"She's is very cool, but barely keeping her head above water."

"I have never been known for my interpretations of art, but when I see "Rabbit Stew", I see a woman who has her whole life ahead of her with no hinderances. I see dreams with no limitations and the beauty that comes with it. Its amazing."

"When I look at this piece, I think of "Not Ready to Be Prey". The woman and rabbits (which are both hunted by men) are alive and empowered...the rabbits aren't just sitting cooking, they are swimming, and the woman isn't going to drown, she's got her goggles and a self-assured look. They might be caught in the stew but they're not giving in. The potatoes too...they're raw, not ready to be eaten. Looks like the challenge isn't over for the hunter."

I was part of "Conception", a group art show at Brick in the heart of Tribeca, NYC on October 26. The show consisted of 21 visual artists, 3 live bands and a fashion on this truly unique underground venue.
The reception was filled with great art, music, people and of course cocktails.
