mannequin in spanish orange

pencils on wood. 11in x 26in.
The artist whose work I have been admiring lately is JoaquĆn Sorolla. He painted the people and landscapes of his native Spain under the warm orange sun (in a nutshell).

The 'aqua mannequin' has found itself a nice new home in Miami. Enjoy the weather.

I also sold 10 small pieces. I can say I am content.

solo art show photos

The opening reception of my solo show was a success and an awesome time. Beast, the host restaurant and its staff did an amazing job, from the service, to the excellent food, and all the final touches. I saw old friends, and made new ones. Here are a few of the photos. Thank you to everyone who made this a great evening.

mini fishboards

So I made 40 miniature fishboards. They are 9 inch replicas of my 8 original fish series paintings. Here are some pics of the process.
The hand-cut wood:

The babies: so cute

The minis: handmade & hangable

I sold some of the mini fishboards at the Digable Art Festival, which by the way was awesome!

.sketching in pen is nice.................................................... i like it.

3.03.2010

ooh

The beginning of a new piece of arte. It will not be of the fish family, but rather stem from heraldry. Ooh, I'm excited.

2.25.2010

sketchbook

I have this thing with sketchbooks. They start out clean, methodical, and along with the pages they soon graduate to an organized chaos, followed by a sea of white. I have never reached the end of a sketchbook. Their expiration dates are overrated.
So these sketches above are a glimpse into my next piece. until then.

tumble rinse repeat

oil & graphite on wood. 10.5in x 34in
This piece can be presented in any direction, with the nose down, up and around. The color inspiration was driftwood. Apparently, according to Norse myth the first two humans were formed out of driftwood.

9.20.2009

temporarily untitled

The pencil rendering in this one is rougher than the Madonna, for example. This was the intention, and I want to keep the oil paint to a minimum. We'll see what happens.

9.13.2009

reverse something new

I will keep this one in the gray/graphite spectrum.

This is making me hungry..

our Lady of low tide - close up

our Lady of low tide

oil & graphite on wood. 11in x 34in
This is the finished piece. The fish used is mahi-mahi (the dolphin fish).
The title in:
Portuguese- [ nossa Senhora da marƩ baixa ]
Polish- [ Matka Boska odpływu ]

7.29.2009

Mary, new piece

I have recently acquired a new appreciation for Christian art, so this next piece will be a reflection of that.

7.10.2009

payara

oil & graphite on wood. 10.5in x 36in
In this (much awaited) piece, I wanted to make the wood as raw as possible, barely altered, as the grain itself is intense. This was also inspired by the early Hawaiian surfboards that were made from wood.
The payara is a game fish found in the Amazon River basin. It is also known as the vampire fish or dog fish (peixe-cachorro) due to its two front fangs. Their diet partially consists of piranhas, which it impales on its pair of pearly whites.

4.06.2009

SOLD

'The Ambassador: sandstorm study' was sold at the New York Historical Society in the Jazz for Peace silent auction! yay!

3.25.2009

barrels of pickle soup

oil & graphite on wood. 11in x 34in
Initially this piece was supposed to be more grey than green, but since it worked I left it alone.
Pickle soup is an actual soup in Poland. You make it like any other soup, but the main ingredient and taste is shredded pickles! It's delicious, its a bit tart, a bit creamy, and a bit green.
